I only caught part of a report on Lou Dobbs regarding Beckham's visa. He received an O-visa. The Department of State (http://travel.state.gov/visa/temp/types/types_1271.html) does not give the number of these visas issued every year. However, the reporter on Lou Dobbs (http://transcripts.cnn.com/TRANSCRIPTS/0707/13/ldt.01.html) claimed there were over 12,000 of those given out last year . Where did they get that number?

Thanks folks for your wishes. I had not been active on the volunteering side due to multiple reasons and other day to day challenges and career.
I agree with a lot of people in the community that it is a challenge to balance a challenging personal life, especially in a country like America where regular day to day life poses many challenges.
In the green card process, the challenge is just not about one needing a job to fulfill day to day needs but to secure a future for him/her and family.
A lot of people I have come across through IV have been absolutely amazing in stepping up and doing what they do and this platform provided by IV (Aman, Pappu, Jay etc..) has been a blessing for all of us.
I have written to IV core that I will continue to support IV and its activities.

I also had my visa interview on 27-DEC-2007 @Mumbai (h1-b/h-4 renewal) and was told that I will receive an email in 2 business days, subsequent to which I will have to go to VSF office for getting my visa stamped.
Its been 6 business days and am yet to receive an email..I contacted VSF in Mumbai and they told me that all the H1-B applicants are in the same boat and they could not predict any time line...Planning to call the US-consulate tomorrow to see if they can provide some timeline..I already have rescheduled my return flight to US...If things continue this bad, am planning to use my AP to travel back to the US.

I agree calabor well said ;), but realy its frustrating when you have a family to look after and a house. The worst thing is no one is accountable for this mess. Specialy when you have been in US for such a long time.
Veeru123, so in your case did you call DOS and then things worked out or consulate themselves send you the email/passport on 25th. Let me also know is it an automated response system at DOS or we have to speak to someone and give our EAC# as case reference. Your advice would be of great help.

I know you are trying to promote vonage, but not addressing the issues in terms of cancellation.
One more thing is that the taxes on the service, which is really killing part, for new yorkers, have to pay almsot 9 dollars in taxes, which is 35% of the monthly bill (24.99), it's too much when we compare with other VOIP services....

FUSF (VoIP) $2.41
Regulatory and Compliance Fee $1.49
Emergency 911 Service Fee $1.49
Hope vonage will come up with some thing better than this, aslo there is 5000 minutes restriction on outgoing, it doesnt matter whether you called local or international, every minute counts.....guys beware of that limit, I know 5K is lot many minutes, but still you have to monitor, if it exceeds, the account will be changed to Business and have to pay more monthly.....
Also it would be great if you guys can come up with a feature that calling from cell phone by using vonage account.....with this option, more customers can sign up, offcourse customer service has to imrpove lot....

I would like to point out the differences between H1B and L1
1. There is a yearly limit for H1B (65k + 20K) but L1s are limitless.
2. A minimum wage need clause is there for H1B but minimum wage is not required to be paid for L1s. There are people in L1A visas who are supposed to be Senior Managers are sometimes paid less than 60K per annum by these offshore companies. As although they are brough in L1A visa they are in fact developers.
3. Almost 99% of the L1s are from offshore companies whose main intention is to send the project/job to offshore, most of the H1Bs do not have this intention.
4. L1s cannot change their employer, so they are bound to follow what their offshore employer ask them to do i.e try to take the job offshore, H1Bs can change employers, they will not try to send the job to offshore as they will then eventually have tomove back to offshore.
So if we clearify these points even to the antis, I hope they will understand who is the real culprint for the employment scarcity. Each of these companies are moving thousands of jobs out of this country making the problems for Citizens/Green Card holders/H1Bs.

Even if authorities bans all these L1s, outsourcing will not stop. On the contrary it will intensify.

If companies find more stumbling blocks to operate their business, they will find even more innovative ways to overcome those. Remember India is no longer a back office for a low end work now. Many companies have even moved their R&D to India.

they first stated that they had instructions from their legal team that they have too much hassle with EADs causing problems, so they dont hire ppl with outside EAD. When I asked them to reconsider they said I dont know for sure, lets see what the legal team says.
It seem to me that this hr person did not make up the refusal on their own, but had previous precedents to go by or had been given explicit instructions.
My fear is that they will come back with a clearer explanation of why they cannot offer employment based on the EAD.
I am getting really really upset about this. If I had known about this EAD refusal thing I would not even have gotten out of H1 and would have continued to work...

I have direct responses from Murthy and Rajiv Khanna now . Plus 2 other american lawyers I know. The answers have variations. I'm going to do my own research and would encourage others to do the same before coming to a conclusion on this.
If you have asked this question to your own lawyers about multiple I485 filing, please post them here.
Members can then look at all the information and make their own decisions.
I work for MSFT - I am a dependent on my husband's process (he works for another company), and I also have my own process filed, where he is my dependent.
When I asked if we could have 2 processes, the lawyer answered:
"There is no problem with you pursuing I-485 applications through the two companies since you and you husband have reverse roles in each process as principal beneficiary and dependent".
Hope this helps other people on the same situation.

I dont see any improvement at chennai.I contacted consulate after 7 working days (after interview) and got reply to allow another 4 work days.
Consulate has handed over the passport to VFS on Jan 2nd and VFS has dispatched on the same day.I would be receiving that today.

embassy got all clearance, issues etc from DOS on jan 25th..and since then VO is still reviewing..
i read in all the forums that the worst to worst case has the got the visa printed, right next day of receiving clearance from DOS..maybe now i need to get clearance from GB !

I received standard reply from TSC yesterday. "In absence of A# or SRC number we are unable to locate your file. If you would like to re-submit please quote these numbers......."

NSC has approximately 26,000 I485 applications that may have a visa available and we are reviewing them as expeditiously as possible. This application is in line to be worked but it will take time. Please allow an additional 45 days for NSC to adjudicate the application. If you have not received a notice from NSC after 45 days you may submit another inquiry.

I tried to contact Customer Service at USCIS. They don't provided any information. USCIS website updates show they are processing 08/01 or later for AOS application. They are not following the First In First Out(FIFO) order.

You can put any clauses in the contract as long as they are legal and the renter accepts it. But as 'albertpinto' said, beware of the people with bad credit and bankruptcy or people going through divorces - you may not want to rent them your property as it is very difficult to remove somebody (yes, even from your own house); it can take anywhere between 3 to 6 months and in the meantime, you are still liable to pay the mortgage if your renter defaults.
IMO, Only rent to people with good credit history.
