I am a july 2nd filer and filed my second application on Aug 15th.
Now that I have got receipts for July 2nd applications, I have put stop payments on the checks on Aug 15th application.
My hope is that my 2nd application will not be processed.

Do you think that it's safe to put a stop payment on the check for the second application? I consulted an immigration attorney on that and he thought that it may negatively affect the first application if the second one is rejected. The attorney's suggestion was to withdraw the second application once the receipt notice is generated. Is there an option to combine both I-485s? Please, let me know what you think. Thanks, Leo

I am only seeing only 100% illegal discrimination in these scenarios. Pretty soon, they will stop hiring US citizes of Indian (or Chines or Japanese or Italians ..) origin.
This is plain stupidity. These employers should first take a good look at an EAD and a GC. As for as work authorization is concerned, both these cards provide us with the same rights. The EAD says �The person identified is authorized to work in the US for the validity of this card� where as the GC says �The person identified by the card is authorized to work and remain in the US�.
So why does the legal department come into picture here? Is it because of the expiry date associated with EAD�s? If that�s the case even a GC has got an expiration date (a later date maybe). Does that mean that an additional budget is required to hire GC holders?

EB3 will not any visa from recapture bcoz it will go to EB2 first. EB2 line is not going to clear in next 10 years bcoz nowadays everybody applies in EB2 and as they move VB forward for EB2, more and more people apply for AOS and it never ends.
So EB3 won't be benefited by recapture unless there is a clause specifically for EB3 allotment out of that recapture
We need some numbers to back this up. I think you are saying EB2 will not become current even with the recaptured number. There is another thread for requesting numbers from USCIS about pending applications per category, per country. So, participate in that campaign as well.

Please don't get pissed with people telling you right or wrong. My take on EB-3 issue is write to Rep. Zoe Lofgren in large number, as far as I know she understand the Retrogression mess as a whole, but she's not aware the typicle problem faced by EB-3 because of the asylum(245i) given by the congress. If she would use this logic, she can go farther...

Super news for every body. Assuming 0 approvals in September :p
only 4000 EB1 pending; even if all of them are approved, and with 1000 more in 2010, we have 30,000 EB1 rolling over to EB2. ROW EB2 quota ~ 25,000. pending eb2 row = 7150. even if we have 15,000 more approved in 2010, eb2 row consumes 22,000 and the remaining supply = 33,000 which can go to china, india, mexico and philippines.

If you decide to apply multiple 485s with each other as dependents, then file just one first. Wait. Gets its A number and put that number in the other application. This way you will cover one pitfall of multiple filing. It will not cause confusion at USCIS end. Now This will not completely eliminate all risks in multiple filing. There have been cases in the past where when you inquire the status of one application, you will get the status of other. And if the PD of other is new, you can get stuck in a blackhole and will either have to wait for USCIS to sort it out or keep trying other ways to solve it. One of the reasons for delay (rightly put by Murthy) is -- when an application is adjudicated by a CIS officer, if the officer sees that there are other files open for the same individual, the officer will not adjudicate that application until that officer has all of the files in existence for that individual. This causes significant delays and confusion in adjudication.
Also do not apply EAD and AP on both. This is commonsense. But just mentioning it here in case..
I also researched the option of CP on one and regular 485 on other. While CP looks attractive, there are lot of risks. I have a big document on this. Overall I would not recommend this to anyone who wants to play safe.
Even multiple filing option should be pursued by critically evaluating your own situation. See how much you and your wife have secure jobs. How new are your PDS. What catagories do you belong to. Do not just apply because you have money to throw away. If throwing money gives you peace of mind, then by all means give it to the lawyers to file I485.
Again. There is nothing right or wrong. Multple filing is only good for very specific cases to have a safety net. This is what I have found till now.

Laws are designed to prevent this exact kind of thing. I personally would, to quote a Hindi movie dialog, take a sledge-hammer and change the geography of the abuser's face. On a more practical note, I would lawyer up, collect evidence, spin up a multi-million dollar lawsuit, and use settlement money to sip MaiTai on some beach in Lanai, while the harasser gets to suck on cock-meat sandwiches in the nearest penitentiary.
Sense of guilt... the guy who is breaking the law should have that. Not the victim who wants a reference. C'mon grow a penis!

I totally support the blood donation idea. I am pretty sure, a blood donation drive would be front page news on American Red Cross web site also. It should send out a message that the GC is so important to us.

I created a SR on 09/14 and got the following response today.
"

I would appreciate if someone can interpret the message.

I-485 inventory means number of 485 apps they have received or in their DB. ( simple )
I don't think USCIS will( should ) worry about the PERM applications/140-approved applications.IMHO that' be fortune-telling business for USCIS, that so many PERM/140 approvals will directly result into so many 485 applications.
I'm know USCIS trumped us before, but If I were to bet, I'd bet that these are straight-record count off their 485 applications.

In my 10 year stay in the US, I have traveled through UK only once and I had promised to myself I will never fly through UK again. Apart from the Transit visa hassel, they do not allow you to carry a laptop in addition to your carry-on. Even if the airline allows you to carry laptop in addition to a carry-on, the obnoxious UK airport authority will force you to pack your laptop inside your carry-on.

I will call again tomorrow and speak with different rep to see what they say. I am the principal applicant in this case. If we could read and understand the AILA handbook none of us would need to go to an attorney for anything. I am here to get advise from people who may have already done it and learn from their experience. Once gain please share your experiences on this so others can benefit from it.
